The
Keyhaven Scow was first moulded in 1980 and we are
continually updating them as the years pass.
Originally we wished to build a wooden boat but good
seasoned timber was, as now, hard to come by so the
obvious solution was to build a moulded resinglass
version, retaining the basic charm of traditional
types. Because of problems in taking a mould off a
tree-wood plug, the Mark ll used hardboard and filler
with chines made to look like clinker. On finished
boats, deck mouldings incorporated gunwales, joining
the hull with a neat 'biscuit lid' fit. Keels are
moulded, as is the centreplate box.
Having
started with wooden seats, masts and spars, a metal
centreplate, fixed rudder and inflatable buouyancy
bags, the latest boats incorporate aluminium spars,
built-in bouyancy, GRP seats, wooden centreplates and
'state-of-the-art' lifting rudders.
The
Scow is a dream boat for all the family - ideal for
racing, pottering, using as a tender or to go fishing
in - the only problem seems to be getting each member
of the family to wait their turn!
Our
newest Scows will be ready next season but it is well
worth putting in your order early so that you may
choose your livery and get ready for the anticipated
excitement to come.
